From: Sabir

Beehive dessert.

Beehive is one of the most traditional desserts in Saudi Arabia, which normally served with tea or coffee as a snack. It is a small tiny pastry ball filled by cheese.

These sweet treats are perfect for serving in individual portions.

It seems like there are a lot of ingredients, but it is worth the effort.

Ingredients:
  •      3 ½   cup plain flour.
  •      ½      cup oil.
  •       4      tablespoon milk powder.
  •       2      tablespoon yoghurt.
  •       1      cup warm water.
  •       3      tablespoon white sugar.
  •               Spread of salt.
  •       1      tablespoon yeast.
  •       1      tablespoon packing powder.
  •       1      egg. (Whiskered to plaster the face).
  •               Sesame to spread over the face.
  •               Philadelphia cheese.
  •               Syrup.

Cooking time
 : 15 mins.

Perpetration time : 25 mins.

Servings :  8 -10  .

Preparation method:

1-   In a large bowl, combine the milk powder, yeast, packing powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in  the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the water, yoghurt and oil. Whisk the mixture.

2-   While mixing, add the flour gradually until you got smooth and homogeneous dough. If the pastry remains “sticky”, put a little bit of flour.

3-   Cover the dough with warm towel and leave it for one hour to rise.

4-   Preheat the oven to 300-350 C.

5-   Latter, take the dough out and with your hand, make many small balls as the golf ball size.

6-   Spread each ball with your hand to make a small disc with a uniform thickness.

7-    Fill the discs with cheese, and then close them to make balls again.

8-    Fill the whole tray with the cheesy balls.

9-    Wipe the balls surface with egg and speared the sesame on them.

10-   Put the tray in the oven until the colour of the balls become gold brown.

11-   Take off the tray from the oven and pour the syrup over the cheesy balls.

12-   Leave it to cool for 10 mins then serve it.
